The organisation must:
  • offer post-secondary programme(s) in design that is/are at least two years in length
  • programme of study must be coherent and result in a certificate or degree of completion
  • actively work to raise design standards and the conditions within which designers practice design
  • actively engage in promoting design research
  • be in operation for a minimum of 24 months
  • be willing to actively engage in ico-D activities
  • complete an application form
  • pay an annual membership fee


For cases in which the information supplied in the form is insufficient for the Executive Board to make a decision, applicants will be contacted and may be asked to supply additional information, including but not limited to:

  • letters of reference or recommendation
  • examples of student work
  • copy of curriculum or syllabus
  • press reviews
  • recommendation from industry colleagues (local or international)
  • alumni network
