Kharkov (Ukraine) - April 26, 2006 marks the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy. To underline the significance of this sad event and to remind us of the dangers of similar catastrophes still lurking in various corners of the globe, The VI International 4th Block Triennial of Eco Posters has chosen to adopt the theme: 'Chernobyl 20 Years On'.

Anna Shishkova, Executive Manager of the 4th Block Triennial, puts the event into context as follows:

"Twenty years in world history is a relatively short span of time. But it has been long enough to propel humankind into the 21st century, to make some incredible discoveries and to bring many new technologies into the everyday life of almost every person."

"Twenty years is the amount of time that has passed since the first technological catastrophe struck at the beginning of the information age."

"Twenty years since Chernobyl, and human beings continue to reproduce social problems and keep destroying the environment without seeing that the real Chernobyl has not yet begun. It is ahead."
