At the recent Icograda World Design Congress 2007 in La Habana, Cuba, the faculty and students of Instituto Superior de Diseno (ISDi) opened their school to the congress delegates, showcasing newly completed renovations and a broad range of design work. Located in central La Habana, the school's home is a four floor colonial building where graphic design, illustration, fashion design, animation and industrial design are taught. You can read more about the school on the Creative Review blog.

To support the continued development of design education in Cuba, Icograda is coordinating a book drive to expand ISDI's library. Piers Carey, a presenter from South Africa at the Education Conference held during the Congress, brought the idea to Brenda Sanderson, Icograda's Managing Director. "It is a natural initiative for Icograda to coordinate. The design community in Cuba invested so much over the course of planning for the Congress and the feedback we've had since the event has been overwhelmingly positive. Now that the delegates have gone home, they are asking what they can o to give back. As people find out about the book project, they all want to contribute."

"The school has a wishlist they have compiled that I hope we can fulfill. You can also contribute any book on design that you feel best represents your country. Contributions of design magazines are also welcome."

The books will be collected at the Icograda Secretariat in Montreal and then sent to ISDi as a bulk shipment.
