Call for entries for 'Touch' Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2017 (HKIPT 2017).

'Touch' Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2017 (HKIPT 2017) is jointly presented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the ico-D Member Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA), organised by Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM).


‘Touch' ― Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2017 is now calling for entries. Designers from all countries and regions are welcome to participate. No entry fee is required. For details of the competition, please browse the Competition Details and the Website of Past Poster Triennials.

Since its debut in 2001, the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial has borne witness to and documented the development of local and international poster design through competition, exhibition and forum.

Hong Kong Heritage Museum  is a museum complex featuring different aspects of history, art, design and culture. As design is one of the major collections, HKHM is dedicated to promoting design through collecting, researching and programming.




Entries will be submitted under four categories: ‘Ideology’, ‘Promotion of Cultural Events’, ‘Commercial and Advertising’ and ‘Thematic’. Five prominent international designers have been invited to form a judging panel:

Mr. Kjell Ekhorn / Norway
Mr. Kazunari Hattori / Japan
Mr. Tommy Li / Hong Kong
Ms. Ariane Spanier / Germany
Mr. Niklaus Troxler / Switzerland



There are four categories of entries:

A: Ideology – creations concerning universal themes, the conditions and existence of man, civilization, social and political actions.

B: Promotion of Cultural Events – promoting culture, art, theatre, music, education and sport ventures.

C: Commercial and Advertising – promoting commodities and businesses.

D: Thematic – ‘Touching’, associates with different definitions and interpretations, such as from the cultural, social, physical and psychological perspectives, etc. This is a special category, purposely designed to explore the multiple interpretations of ‘Touching’ in various art forms and contexts.


Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be selected for each category. Five international judges will each select one outstanding entry from all entries for receiving the Judge Awards.



‘Touch ― Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2017’ exhibition will be presented in Hong Kong Heritage Museum to exhibit all selected entries in 2017/ 2018. An exhibition catalogue including all the selected entries will be published to document the event.

An array of posters designed by the five international judges will also be featured in the exhibition to showcase their creativities and achievements in poster design.



To enhance academic discussion and ideas exchange on poster design, a forum will be organised in Hong Kong Heritage Museum. World renowned designers will be invited as speakers. All entrants, design students and interested parties are welcome to attend and exchange views and insight about design.
