Smart phones burst onto the scene of design and industry and are still having a profound impact. 'SMART' applies in various industries including automobile, home appliances, architecture, fashion, medical services and public services and continues to extend into other areas. Applying the definition of 'SMART' - witty and clever - we obtain 'witty and clever design.'

'Witty and clever design' cares for humans and naturally connects them with technology. Moreover, 'witty and clever design' thinks about environmental sustainability. 'SMART DESIGN' is similar in philosophy, action, meaning, and effects as previous generations 'good design', 'best design' or, simply, design. Nevertheless, countless people are currently excited about smart design. Perhaps the wit and cleverness of earnestly human-centred design is what attracts people.

This year, under the theme of 'SMART DESIGN - Trend, Business, Creativity,' DESIGN KOREA will direct itself more towards displaying designs with the potential to lead the growth of the future design industry.
