The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for regular and visiting faculty positions—at the assistant or associate professor level—in the Department of Art and Design. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and diverse environment with students from over 100 countries. CAAD has established a reputation as a leader in design education in the region and graduates have gone on to study at top graduate programs and have established themselves as leaders in creative industries across the region

Successful candidates are expected to assume duties in August 2020.
The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication program and the Foundation Year. Candidates may also teach communication-related courses in Design Management. A terminal degree in Design or a related area is required along with significant academic and professional experience. Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: graphic design, typography, illustration, strategic communication, storytelling, photography, and exhibition design along with the ability to teach foundations design studio and drawing courses.
The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Design Management program. A terminal degree in Design, Design Management or a related area is required along with a strong design ability as well as significant academic and professional experience. Candidates may also teach courses on research, strategy, and professional practice in other programs. Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: design management, design research, design thinking, strategic design, user-centered design, strategic communication, innovation, entrepreneurship and service design.
In addition to teaching, faculty are required to mentor students, engage in scholarly activities (which can include creative work, research, or both) and participate in service activities for the college, university and community. Scholarship and research are important for the Department and the University. Successful candidates will not only have access to excellent research opportunities but also generous financial support from the University to develop their scholarship. Applicants should have an excellent record of teaching and scholarship from a reputable university (or the potential for developing such a record, if at the Assistant Professor rank).

CAAD offers five undergraduate programs leading to degrees in architecture, interior design, visual communication, multimedia design, and design management, along with the Master of Urban Planning degree. The Department of Art and Design also offers minors in design management, film, illustration and animation, photography, and product design.
