Guy Schockaert Award
Created in 2014, the Guy Schockaert Award commemorates late Former President, and “Mr. icograda,” Guy Schockaert.
Typographer, graphic designer, and one of the first true design thinkers, Guy Schockaert is among ico-D’s esteemed custodians of design, having led, throughout his more than forty years' career, the profession and its designers to seek "design" solutions to humanitarian problems. Guy was one of the initiators of "Design for the World," and was known for his tireless advocacy of professional design organisations, in particular, for his work with icograda, where he served as President from 1997 to 1999.
In 2007, Guy was presented the icograda President’s Award, which honoured him for his outstanding contributions to the institution, and for his indomitable spirit, brilliance and integrity within the design world.
The first Guy Schockaert Award will be announced in 2015.
The 2014 icograda General Assembly approved the proposal of establishing the Guy Schockaert Award. The Award committee consisted of:
- Colette Schockaert
- Iva Babaja | ico-D President
- David Grossman | ico-D President Elect
- Sadik Karamustafa | ico-D Former Treasurer
- Ahn Sang Soo | ico-D Former Vice President
The Award committee began their work by establishing the criteria and process for evaluating nominations.
A full description of the Award and its process for submissions will be given in 2015.
