Design Austria (DA) is Austria's only professional association and service organization representing the interests of designers from all the creative disciplines graphic design and illustration, product design, and web design.

The association was founded as early as 1927 als Bund Osterreichischer Gebrauchsgraphiker (BOG). Outstanding artists' personalities, such as the illustrator Alfred Kubin, the typographer Rudolf von Larisch, and Joseph Binder, a pioneer of modern Austrian graphic design, numbered among its members. Today, renowned designers such as Stefan Sagmeister or Ferdinand A. Porsche continue this tradition.

In 1992 the association opened up to embrace also other fields of design, apart from graphics. This was due to an increasingly interdisciplinary professional approach and because of the fact that individual creative processes are at the basis of all design activity. Today, Design Austria has some 1,300 members from all design disciplines, most of whom work as freelance designers.

Service is one of the main concerns of Design Austria. Besides the individual counselling of its members, basic information is on top of the list. Members are primarily informed through the association's own publications and periodicals, such as the calculation and competition guidelines, which assist both designers and clients or competition organizers. This mandate to inform goes hand in hand with an educational programme: Design Austria organizes seminars (client acquisition, creative techniques, calculation, copyright), lectures featuring international speakers, and excursions.

Events are held regularly in Austria and abroad; besides comprehensive exhibitions meant to promote Austrian design and a variety of small-scale presentations, Design Austria has been the host of the designforum MQ together with the Austrian Design Foundation since late 2005. Design Austria organises international and national design competitions, such as the Joseph Binder Award, the Romulus Candea Prize, and the Adolf Loos National Design Prize.

Representing over 3,000 graphic designers, managers, educators and students, the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) is a hub for the graphic design community. RGD promotes knowledge sharing, continuous learning, research, advocacy, mentorship and work on the cutting-edge of design. We work to establish and promote professional standards and best practices throughout our industry. RGD was created by an Act of the Ontario Legislature (Bill Pr 56) to grant designers who qualify with the designation "Registered Graphic Designer" or "RGD", and is the only graphic design association in North America to have this type of legislation. The RGD and Registered Graphic Designer designations are signals of quality and competence to the profession, public and government. Successful candidates have met a rigorous set of standards that includes relevant, professional education and experience as well as competence in the areas of business, design principles, research, theory and ethics demonstrated through the successful completion of a written test and portfolio interview. Our vision is for a graphic design profession that is broadly valued for its contribution to life, commerce and society. DesignThinkers (www.designthinkers.com) DesignThinkers is Canada’s largest, most important annual event for the graphic design community. The conference is a journey into the creative process and a celebration of strategic design thinking. Advocacy (www.rgd.ca/about/advocacy.php) RGD advocates best practices for graphic designers and the clients they work with. Our focus is on spec work and crowdsourcing, accessibility, sustainability and salaries and billing practices. Other advocacy areas include pro bono work and internship guidelines. Social Good Design Awards (www.rgd.ca/sogood) The international “So Good” Awards recognize graphic design projects done under the theme of communication design for social good; work with the power to incite action and make meaningful change in the way we live our lives. The Business of Graphic Design: A Professional’s Handbook (www.rgd.ca/resources/rgd-handbook.php) The Business of Graphic Design is the first and only comprehensive Canadian guide to maintaining a design business. The book is comprised of several sections by experts in their field and covers professional business management as it applies to graphic design. CreativeEarners Survey (www.creativeearners.ca) The bi-annual CreativeEarners Survey provides a snapshot of the Canadian creative industry, including salaries, billing practices and much more. The results are available for free as an English and French downloadable PDF and an iPad app. Expert Bureau (www.rgd.ca/expert-bureau.php) RGD's Expert Bureau represents a pool of knowledge from experienced, charismatic and insightful designers on the cutting edge of the discipline. Professional Development RGD’s many events and programs, ranging from webinars and virtual panel discussions to studio tours and more, are aimed at increasing the knowledge and skill of design professionals and providing a forum for the exchange of information. Student Programming RGD spearheads a variety of programming for design students and recent graduates, including the annual Student Awards and DesignThinkers Scholarship Programs, an ongoing formal Mentorship Program, and the annual HeadStart Conference.

ULUPUH, the Croatian Association of Artists of Applied Arts, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2000. The association, the members of which are renowned Croatian artists, is comprised of seventeen different sections: ceramics, graphic design, photography, industrial design, textile design, fashion design, theatre and film, jewellery design, architecture, horticulture, applied painting, caricature and animated films, as well as of the art critics, restauration and multimedial sections.

The ULUPUH Gallery organises approximately twenty exhibitions of its members annually.

Every three years, ULUPUH organises the International Exhibition of Graphic Design and Visual Communications (ZGRAF), which exhibits works created in this area so closely related to everyday life. Since its foundation in 1975, ZGRAF has been promoting graphic design as an artistic intervention in urban space and its primary objective is to promote graphic design in accordance with the highest aesthetic principles by means of connecting design to art. The importance of ZGRAF lies in the contribution of the artist as an individual to international graphic design and communication achieved through art.

The second most important international exhibition is the World Triennale of Small Ceramics. Judging by the number of countries present at the exhibition, it is the largest exhibition of ceramics in the world . Ceramics is considered to be one of the most vital witnesses of the culture and life of a certain place and time.

In the year 2006, ULUPUH organised the 40th Zagreb Salon - a triennial exhibition of applied arts in Croatia.

They collaborate with other countries in the areas of arts and culture, by means of exchanging suggestions, visiting exhibitions, lectures or performances and workshops in the field of applied arts.

The history of the formation of IGDS (Iranian Graphic Designers Society) dates back to about 35 years ago, when graphic designers excitingly and willingly, tried to make a society of their own by gathering their professional colleagues together. This aim, however and in spite of long discussions, failed to be accomplished at that time.

Many years later that Iranian society had been subject to great changes in political, social and cultural constructions, we graphic designers, were also facing a new situation; different professional and organizational conditions and revisions.

It was only 5 years ago that Iranian graphic designers of different ages and generations managed to gather up in a meeting for the first time. It was then that conversations, discussions and criticisms began. After all, never before had there existed any chance for them to be with each other in a professional union. Thus, the primary core of having a professional society was formed in April 1998.

The International Student Poster Competition ISPC contributes for the roll of the culture and visual arts communication, promoting social responsibility through the design, as well exchange of ideas, networking, thus making this student poster competition a worldwide presenter of solutions for global topics. More information can be accessed on www.skopjeposter.com. ISPC was organized in Skopje, Macedonia in June 2008, as the first and most important regional student poster competition that offered international promotion of ideas and visual communication, with strong accent on the global social issues. Thus, in only couple of years of existence it gained its position of the most important in the South-Eastern Europe region. Proud to mention that in our collection we have more than 15.000 student posters, which makes us the largest relevant archive and data base in Europe. So far we have conducted 6 international student poster competitions on topics such as Tolerance (2008), Power vs Poverty (2009), EcoLOGIC (2010), HIV/AIDS (2011), Money for Free (2012), Citizen 2020 (2013), and more than 30 post review exhibitions at Wilanow Poster Museum, Warsaw; Zurich Museum of Arts; The House of Deputies, Czech Parliament, Prague; Nederland Foto Museum, Rotterdam; Gallery MC New York; Marmara University, Gallery Istanbul…

The Designers Society of Slovenia (DOS) brings together top designers from a wide range of creative and design-related spheres. The core objectives of the society are promoting the profession, organising retrospective exhibitions and other public presentations of the society members' work, and creating links between the profession and its users and customers. Designers within the society are organised into a number of sections: visual communications, industrial design, unique design, scenography, and costume design. Society members are kept up-to-date on competitions, exhibitions and festivals in the field. They also participate as judges for such competitions and tenders, with the DOS providing expert advice as early as the drawing up of competition terms and conditions. Members are professionally engaged in the sections through various activities such as organising exhibitions, issuing competitions, membership in expert panels, promoting foreign and domestic design festivals, running professional excursions, lectures and similar. The Visual Communication Section unites creators from the field of visual communication design. The Industrial Design Section unites industrial designers, interior designers and interior equipment and fittings designers. The Unique Design Section is for designers working on unique products in various materials: including textiles, ceramics, glass, wood, and metal. The Scenography and Costume Design Section brings together designers working in dramatic and musical theatre, film, television and puppetry. Any Slovenian citizen or company registered in Slovenia actively involved in design or offering teaching or training in any design area can become an active DOS member. Foreign citizens actively involved in the profession in Slovenia can also become DOS members. Individuals or groups supporting the society's work (individuals, labour organisations and professional associations) may also contribute in the work of the society. The DOS was founded in 1951 and is the only professional association in Slovenia to unite designers from all areas of design. The society has been a full member of Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) since 1961. In 1963 the society took part in the founding congress of Icograda and has influenced the development of the institution, which has set out the most important and still valid rules on quality evaluation in the field of visual communication design. Respecting the criteria defined by Icograda is one of the main commitments of its members, which includes the DOS. The DOS is a co-founder of the Architecture Museum in Ljubljana and the international BIO (Biennial of Industrial Design) and the author of the event concept. The DOS was also involved in establishing the curriculum council for higher education studies at the University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian Copyright Agency, the Slovenian Chamber of Culture, and defining evaluation criteria for design services. The numerous awards won by DOS members have helped establish the society among the Slovenian and international public.

Madrid Designers' Association (DIMAD) is a non-profit organisation which develops its activities within the Madrid Autonomous Region, even if many of those activities have an international scope. It was set up with the main purpose of becoming a strategic tool of reference for the promotion, projection and dissemination of design culture having society at large as its end target. DIMAD is the bridge between businesspeople, public bodies, Design Training Centres and practitioners and it claims both the leading role Madrid is currently playing in Spanish design and the huge potential of the region as a centre of urban culture and economic activity. DIMAD is an association that conceives design as a meeting point between culture and the economy. Mostly made up of designers, it particularly seeks to bring together students and young designers and other practitioners and people linked to or interested in developing and enhancing design culture: architects, teachers, reporters, art directors, etc. DIMAD articulates around its Board of Directors: currently made up of twenty people, graphic and product designers, teachers and researchers. Its chairman is Manuel Estrada, its 5 honorary members Felix Beltrán Juan Gamboa and Pepe Cruz Novillo, and among its members are the most important designers in Madrid. DIMAD was founded in 2005 by 17 designers and currently has 374 members (227 professionals, 108 students, 11 volunteers and 28 friends), practitioners of the different branches of design (graphic, product, interior, fashion design), students at the various design schools and professional collaborators linked to the world of communication, teaching or design. Moreover, 12 training institutions and 10 companies related to design culture are collaborating members of DIMAD. Among the members of DIMAD are the most reputable, heavy-weight practitioners in Madrid. In May 2006, an Agreement was signed between Madrid City Council and DIMAD to set up the Central de Diseño at Matadero Madrid. Thanks to the decisive support from the Art Sector of Madrid City Council and its mayor, Mr Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, the wish cherished by the whole designer sector of Madrid has been realised. With the aim to raise financial resources more easily and to better adapt itself to the management of the Central de Diseño Matadero Madrid, DIMAD set up Madrid Design Foundation which acronym is also DIMAD, initially established with funds from the Association itself.

Swiss Graphic Designers is at one and the same time the description of the occupation and the name of the association. An association with many impulses, ideas and intentions for acknowledged specialists who are facing up to the demands of the future. Swiss Graphic Designers looks back over many years of successful history. After all, it emerged from the ASG Arbeitsgemeinschaft Schweizer Grafiker (Association of Swiss Graphic Designers) which for its part came into being in 1972 out of the merger of the Verband Schweizer Grafiker (VSG - Association of Swiss Graphic Artists) and the Bund Grafischer Gestalter (BSG - Society of Graphic Designers). In an age of vocational and economic changes, Swiss graphic art still enjoys an excellent reputation even beyond our country's borders. Swiss Graphic Design is in international demand. Therefore, in 1993, the association members decided to adopt the English designation SGD Swiss Graphic Designers.

The Amoeba Design Association (ADA) was founded in 1971. It is known as Taiwan Amoeba Design Association (TADA) today. TADA was the first design association founded in Taiwan and was initially consisted of students in the National Taiwan Academy of Arts, now is known as the National Taiwan University of Arts. It is the second oldest design association merely next to the Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China. TADA is the first design association to have interaction with design/artists associations in South Korea and Japan. It successfully introduces the artist association from Japan and the Korea Industrial Artists Association from South Korea to the Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China to hold many associated exhibitions titled "Asian Designers' Exhibition." TADA's frequent exhibitions of arts and design influenced other fine art/design groups tremendously. These avant-garde style of the art and design exhibitions provided different perspectives in such a relatively conservative design atmosphere in Taiwan from 1970 to 1990. In 1990's, TADA hosted and participated in various design exhibitions such as the "Asia Graphic Design Exchange" in 1991 and 1994, the "KOREA and CHINA Graphic Exchange” in 1994 and 1995, the "Icograda International Poster Design Exhibition" in 1997, ...etc. All of these design exhibitions not only provided fruitful design information to general public but also fertilized the field of design in Taiwan. In 2000's, TADA has put efforts to improve its services on the following six areas: the design education, design policy, designers' promotion, design exhibition, design research, and international exchanges. With the fulfilment of the six approaches, TADA hopes make better contributions to serve both national and international design societies. The ultimate goal is to fulfil the implementation of design and everyday life. Visit the TADA Blog: http://amoeba-taiwan.blogspot.com

GRAZI - the Graphics Association of Zimbabwe - was established in 1994 in recognition of the growing need to unite Zimbabwe’s graphic designers under one professional body and to represent, support and develop the Zimbabwean graphic design industry. Due to the dire economic situation in Zimbabwe GRAZI was forced to close in 2006. GRAAZI - the Graphic Arts Association of Zimbabwe - has risen out of the mold of GRAZI like a phoenix out of the flames, new, fresh and more inclusive. GRAAZI was reinvented as an association at our inaugural meeting held on 28 February 2011. GRAAZI recognises the important role graphic art plays in Zimbabwe’s economic development and the contribution good design makes to the community at large. Although the Association is primarily for graphic artists, provision has been made for professionals working close to the graphic arts business to be involved in the Association.
