Madrid Designers' Association (DIMAD) is a non-profit organisation which develops its activities within the Madrid Autonomous Region, even if many of those activities have an international scope. It was set up with the main purpose of becoming a strategic tool of reference for the promotion, projection and dissemination of design culture having society at large as its end target. DIMAD is the bridge between businesspeople, public bodies, Design Training Centres and practitioners and it claims both the leading role Madrid is currently playing in Spanish design and the huge potential of the region as a centre of urban culture and economic activity. DIMAD is an association that conceives design as a meeting point between culture and the economy. Mostly made up of designers, it particularly seeks to bring together students and young designers and other practitioners and people linked to or interested in developing and enhancing design culture: architects, teachers, reporters, art directors, etc. DIMAD articulates around its Board of Directors: currently made up of twenty people, graphic and product designers, teachers and researchers. Its chairman is Manuel Estrada, its 5 honorary members Felix Beltrán Juan Gamboa and Pepe Cruz Novillo, and among its members are the most important designers in Madrid. DIMAD was founded in 2005 by 17 designers and currently has 374 members (227 professionals, 108 students, 11 volunteers and 28 friends), practitioners of the different branches of design (graphic, product, interior, fashion design), students at the various design schools and professional collaborators linked to the world of communication, teaching or design. Moreover, 12 training institutions and 10 companies related to design culture are collaborating members of DIMAD. Among the members of DIMAD are the most reputable, heavy-weight practitioners in Madrid. In May 2006, an Agreement was signed between Madrid City Council and DIMAD to set up the Central de Diseño at Matadero Madrid. Thanks to the decisive support from the Art Sector of Madrid City Council and its mayor, Mr Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, the wish cherished by the whole designer sector of Madrid has been realised. With the aim to raise financial resources more easily and to better adapt itself to the management of the Central de Diseño Matadero Madrid, DIMAD set up Madrid Design Foundation which acronym is also DIMAD, initially established with funds from the Association itself.

Swiss Graphic Designers is at one and the same time the description of the occupation and the name of the association. An association with many impulses, ideas and intentions for acknowledged specialists who are facing up to the demands of the future. Swiss Graphic Designers looks back over many years of successful history. After all, it emerged from the ASG Arbeitsgemeinschaft Schweizer Grafiker (Association of Swiss Graphic Designers) which for its part came into being in 1972 out of the merger of the Verband Schweizer Grafiker (VSG - Association of Swiss Graphic Artists) and the Bund Grafischer Gestalter (BSG - Society of Graphic Designers). In an age of vocational and economic changes, Swiss graphic art still enjoys an excellent reputation even beyond our country's borders. Swiss Graphic Design is in international demand. Therefore, in 1993, the association members decided to adopt the English designation SGD Swiss Graphic Designers.

The Amoeba Design Association (ADA) was founded in 1971. It is known as Taiwan Amoeba Design Association (TADA) today. TADA was the first design association founded in Taiwan and was initially consisted of students in the National Taiwan Academy of Arts, now is known as the National Taiwan University of Arts. It is the second oldest design association merely next to the Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China. TADA is the first design association to have interaction with design/artists associations in South Korea and Japan. It successfully introduces the artist association from Japan and the Korea Industrial Artists Association from South Korea to the Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China to hold many associated exhibitions titled "Asian Designers' Exhibition." TADA's frequent exhibitions of arts and design influenced other fine art/design groups tremendously. These avant-garde style of the art and design exhibitions provided different perspectives in such a relatively conservative design atmosphere in Taiwan from 1970 to 1990. In 1990's, TADA hosted and participated in various design exhibitions such as the "Asia Graphic Design Exchange" in 1991 and 1994, the "KOREA and CHINA Graphic Exchange” in 1994 and 1995, the "Icograda International Poster Design Exhibition" in 1997, ...etc. All of these design exhibitions not only provided fruitful design information to general public but also fertilized the field of design in Taiwan. In 2000's, TADA has put efforts to improve its services on the following six areas: the design education, design policy, designers' promotion, design exhibition, design research, and international exchanges. With the fulfilment of the six approaches, TADA hopes make better contributions to serve both national and international design societies. The ultimate goal is to fulfil the implementation of design and everyday life. Visit the TADA Blog: http://amoeba-taiwan.blogspot.com

Using Innovation, Design, and Branding to Establish a "Taiwan-based Globalized Value Network" With the advent of globalization and the knowledge-based economy, Taiwan's low cost manufacturing is no longer able to survive the intensely competitive environment of international markets. In order to cope with international competition, we need to make use of our existing industrial advantages, cultivate our R&D talent, design capabilities, and establish an environment conducive to value-added industrial development. In 2002 the government announced the Cultural Creative Industry Development Plan under "Challenge 2008 National Development Plan." It includes a National Design Center among its key goals. In 2003, under the auspices of the government, the Taiwan Design Center (TDC) was established. TDC comprises a network with design as its core value, using innovation, design, and branding to help upgrade and reform the nation's businesses. Remembering the past, Welcoming the Future During the 70's the Design Promotion Center under the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) provided comprehensive design consultation for the nation's exporters. For 20 years it helped Taiwan's exporters develop international markets. During the 90's, technology and capital intensive manufacturing was the trend and Taiwan's overall economic development began transitioning to Original Design Manufacture (ODM). During the 21st century, TDC with a professional staff and various advanced practices will allow creativity to flourish and productivity to increase. It will provide the necessary creativity and talent, using innovation, design, and branding to add value to Taiwan products and establish a Taiwan-based Globalized Value Network.

Istanbul Bilgi University's School of Communication Design also includes VCD, which was established in 1997 as one of Turkey's first Visual Communication Design education programs. In the last few years, the school has focused its attention on developing communication in progressive, effective and capable ways through design studies and practices in various mediums and environments. These mediums and environments must be processed and shaped with an analytical and creative mind-set, so that they will be inspiring, interesting, understandable, informative, motivational and accessible to various viewers, users and participants. Our mission in communication design is to study communication in its broadest context through brainstorming, scriptualizing, information systems, visualizations, 3-D modelling, simulations, and project-based learning/teaching methods. We expect our students, who will shape the communication design concepts, media, typographies, graphics, visuals, interactions, space and time of the future, to participate actively in these processes with our academic staff. Highly competitive student works are presented both through year-end annual exhibits to national admirers and also find a chance to reach out to new audience by participating in international venues, as in the case of our exhibits at Outdoor Vision Festival 2012 in Santa Fe (USA) or at Ars Electronica 2005 in Linz (Austria). Driven by the ideal of design excellence, the department adopts a global understanding of design, while setting its standards, and accordingly is involved in international collaborations, projects, student and instructor exchange programmes through its membership of several international associations.

The College brings a broad range of art and design activities together in an extraordinary new building, voted the world’s best higher education building in 2012. The building allows the exchange of ideas and techniques across disciplines, acting as a huge workshop of thinking and making, underpinned by a strong research base and exceptional technical resources. The College inspires its students and staff to be alert to new approaches and ideas; the resulting journey can be challenging but is never dull. Central Saint Martins is centred around nine programmes of which Graphic Communication Design is one, alongside Art, Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design, Culture and Enterprise, Drama and Performance, Fashion, Jewellery and Textiles, Spatial Practices and Foundation Studies. The Graphic Communication Design Programme promotes graphic communication design as a means to question and respond to a range of contemporary issues and ideas. It encourages unpredictable and original outcomes that go beyond current discipline boundaries and shape our experience of the world. We ask our students to explore the breadth of possibilities of graphic communication design and to engage in in-depth enquiry into specific areas of personal interest and research. About Us Based in the heart of Manchester, England, a vibrant and multicultural city, we are one of the oldest and largest providers of art and design courses in the UK, providing a range of architecture, art, design, media and theatre courses. During our 170 year history we have seen many of our graduates go on to be internationally renowned artists. They are a great source of pride to us and they continue to develop the School of Art philosophy of creativity throughout their professional lives. Graduates include L.S. Lowry, Peter Saville, Martin Parr, Malcolm Garrett, Thomas Heatherwick and many more. Art School – Past Established in 1838 as The Manchester School of Design, it was only the second design school in Britain and provided training to the manufacturing industry. It was one of the pioneers of art and design education in the UK, and since its inception the School has often been in the forefront of the various debates and initiatives that have taken place within the sector. Art School – Present Today the Art School is home to around 3,500 students from all corners of the world who study a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a creative, community environment, taking inspiration from specialist staff, Manchester and each other. We place importance on experiment and generating creative surprise. We have a playful yet serious approach to media, materials and processes. We are intellectually and academically challenging. We have mutual respect for each others disciplines and foster an art and design community within the school and the city. We are creative, unconventional and professional. Our close link with the city, its creative communities and cultural institutions is a vital element of the Art School. The scope of activities within the School connects us with an unusually wide range of external organisations, including industrial, commercial and professional bodies, arts associations and galleries. And our advisory board, consisting of talented individuals and artists from a range of areas, ensures our future plans are informed by the needs of cultural organisations and creative industries. Art School – Future Recognising how important it is to move with the times and provide an environment that is in touch with the real world, the School of Art has secured £34 million to invest into its equipment and spaces. This process has already started, with the refurbishment of our workshops and the purchase of equipment, and will continue with the build of a brand new school of art school, which will sit next to and compliment the original art school from 1838. This cutting edge facilities will not only provide our students with state of the art resources but drive forward the City's 'Cultural Ambition' strategy for social and economic growth.

The Royal College of Art provides a unique educational experience in art and design, to a community of carefully selected and exceptionally talented students. Our aim is to nurture their creativity and their ability to innovate, to develop their practical and intellectual skills and to expand their horizons. All our courses are taught by distinguished artists, designers and thinkers, and students have an unrivalled opportunity to study art in a design environment, and design in an art environment. The College is exclusively postgraduate. School of Communication In a world where environmental, social, political, religious, technological and professional issues and structures are changing kaleidoscopically, no area of cultural activity is more challenging than the field of communications. With traditional boundaries between disciplines dissolving, the ethos of this School, and of the College, is ideally equipped to enable students to follow a programme of pre-professional experimentation tailored to their individual needs and skills. The School of Communication at the RCA, led by Neville Brody, encourages – above all – a dynamic, cross-disciplinary approach to study and practice that is rooted in exploration and invention through the use of mixed studios and cross-electives. The broad spectrum of skills we embrace extends from making things to making thought, and carries us across an ever shifting landscape of intertwined activity that extends from print to film and time-based media; image-making and sound design to game play; and social enquiry and digital boundaries to physical installations. Teaching staff are all recognised practitioners in their own fields, bringing depth of experience to academic practice, and are joined by visiting professors and guest lecturers who act as informants or disruptors. School of Communication students work in collaboration with other designers and artists across the College in concentrated workshops and college-wide initiatives, and can draw directly from their expertise. Our active approach to exhibiting student work and to seeking creative projects through collaboration with our industry partners leads to constant opportunities for exposure and engagement. Industry partnerships with Google, BlackBerry and the BBC continue to bring pivotal projects and opportunities, while both students and staff enjoy exposure through exhibitions, competitions, publications and festivals. Research is a vital part of our School, with MPhil and PhD candidates working alongside practice-based students, informing and challenging our curricula and being made visible through a dynamic series of events and talks.

Mission

ZIVA is committed first and foremost to providing a high quality Design education and teaching New Media skills. We are different from other training facilities in that we emphasise design. It is not enough to be proficient with the digital tools, because that is exactly all they are: tools. Whether one wants to study print or new media, an understanding of typography, visual hierarchy, communication, interface and information design is crucial, it is the foundation. The two year full time programme in graphic design serves the following aims: 1. To provide the graphic design profession in Zimbabwe with suitably trained personnel. 2. To develop students problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills. 3. To enable, advise and assist students to develop their creative potential within the subject. 4. To develop skills appropriate to the realization of work in a visual form. 5. To develop communication skills both visual and verbal.
