The history of the formation of IGDS (Iranian Graphic Designers Society) dates back to about 35 years ago, when graphic designers excitingly and willingly, tried to make a society of their own by gathering their professional colleagues together. This aim, however and in spite of long discussions, failed to be accomplished at that time.

Many years later that Iranian society had been subject to great changes in political, social and cultural constructions, we graphic designers, were also facing a new situation; different professional and organizational conditions and revisions.

It was only 5 years ago that Iranian graphic designers of different ages and generations managed to gather up in a meeting for the first time. It was then that conversations, discussions and criticisms began. After all, never before had there existed any chance for them to be with each other in a professional union. Thus, the primary core of having a professional society was formed in April 1998.

Design teaching applies professional and technical skills within a process that is culturally and theoretically grounded. The design discipline is understood as a cultural practice that engages social, economic and political issues and as a critical tool of inquiry that integrates process with product and methodology with representation in a multidisciplinary manner. Inquiry through design comes with an acute awareness of our existence in the region with its multitude of languages and cultures. The curriculum is structured to ensure that students progress from basic skills and knowledge to advanced critical applications and independent thinking. It leads them from foundation courses to advanced thematic and interdisciplinary courses to an independent design thesis project. The distribution of the courses is designed to ensure both a solid training in the field and an appropriate exposure to related fields as well as fields of their own interest.

Our mission is to improve the visual arts communication and social values of the culture and to promote new level of the culture achievements in Macedonia and the region, both in the practice and education. We have been working globally, but in particular our focus remains in Europe. The most successful product of the PLAKART activities is definitely the fact that International Student Poster Competition (ISPC) has become one of the most respected student event in the region and wider. The International Student Poster Competition ISPC contributes for the roll of the culture and visual arts communication, promoting social responsibility through the design, as well exchange of ideas, networking, thus making this student poster competition a worldwide presenter of solutions for global topics. More information can be accessed on www.skopjeposter.com. ISPC was organized in Skopje, Macedonia in June 2008, as the first and most important regional student poster competition that offered international promotion of ideas and visual communication, with strong accent on the global social issues. Thus, in only couple of years of existence it gained its position of the most important in the South-Eastern Europe region. Proud to mention that in our collection we have more than 15.000 student posters, which makes us the largest relevant archive and data base in Europe. So far we have conducted 6 international student poster competitions on topics such as Tolerance (2008), Power vs Poverty (2009), EcoLOGIC (2010), HIV/AIDS (2011), Money for Free (2012), Citizen 2020 (2013), and more than 30 post review exhibitions at Wilanow Poster Museum, Warsaw; Zurich Museum of Arts; The House of Deputies, Czech Parliament, Prague; Nederland Foto Museum, Rotterdam; Gallery MC New York; Marmara University, Gallery Istanbul…

NDC was established in 1963 by the Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry and the Norwegian Trade Council to promote design as as an innovation tool for Norwegian industry to increase their international competitiveness. The council is mainly funded by the Norwegian Department of Trade and Industry. Additional sources of income are consultancy services and design related projects.

Our services
NDC offers advice and support on design issues to Norwegian companies. Other services include designer referrals from a database of 450 designers as well as seminars and lectures on design. Our consultants have wide experience in design management and business development.

Important co-operative agreement
NDC has an agreement with the Innovation Norway IN (formerly the Norwegian Industrial and Development Fund (SND)) to promote design as a competitive tool through all regional IND offices. IN provides financial support to viable commercial enterprise projects in all parts of Norway. The agreement paves the way for companies throughout Norway to gain access to design and product development support.

Design is profitable
International competition and customers' expectations for quality, ease of use and attractive appearance, emphasize the significance and impact of design when products are developed and profiled. In 2002, only one in four Norwegian companies used design in product development, and therefore the Minister of Trade and Industry encourage companies to use design actively and strategically. Strategic use of design has become a necessity in the face of increased international competition. Design Awards One of the NDC's main promotional activities is the annual Award for Design Excellence and the Honours.

Design Excellence Awards
Awards for Design Excellence in various categories are given to both company and designer. Awards include the International Design Award, Classic Award for Design Excellence, Young Talent Award, and the Honour’s Award for Design Exellence.

Design Day
NDC's annual Design Day aims to inspire companies to strategically integrate and employ design as a competitive business tool. The Design Day also acts as a forum for designers and company representatives as well as politicians and journalists.

Students thrive and learn in an environment which is fun and exciting, tinker with cool state-of-the-art equipment that is the very latest in industry, and work with some of the most creative brains in design education today.

Because the design industry is very much a project-based one, learning in the design school is also very hands-on in nature. This includes ‘live’ projects where you work with the best in industry. Students will not only develop their creative and technical skills, they will also hone their own project and time management abilities, thus preparing them for a career in an industry driven by briefs and deadlines.

It’s not all studio and classroom work. Design is global in nature and so the learning experiences will reflect that. Students will participate in industry-driven dialogue, seminars and workshops, go on field trips, overseas exchange programmes, and an industry internship programme, locally or overseas.

The Temasek Design School is well-recognised in the local and international arena as an award-winning institution. Their students have won many prestigious international and local competitions. In addition, our accomplished external examiners from reputable overseas institutions have consistently attested to the very high quality of our courses. It is not surprising, therefore, that our graduates have been accorded advanced standing by the very best degree-granting design institutions for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Australia, UK, USA, Europe and other parts of the world.

The Designers Society of Slovenia (DOS) brings together top designers from a wide range of creative and design-related spheres. The core objectives of the society are promoting the profession, organising retrospective exhibitions and other public presentations of the society members' work, and creating links between the profession and its users and customers. Designers within the society are organised into a number of sections: visual communications, industrial design, unique design, scenography, and costume design. Society members are kept up-to-date on competitions, exhibitions and festivals in the field. They also participate as judges for such competitions and tenders, with the DOS providing expert advice as early as the drawing up of competition terms and conditions. Members are professionally engaged in the sections through various activities such as organising exhibitions, issuing competitions, membership in expert panels, promoting foreign and domestic design festivals, running professional excursions, lectures and similar. The Visual Communication Section unites creators from the field of visual communication design. The Industrial Design Section unites industrial designers, interior designers and interior equipment and fittings designers. The Unique Design Section is for designers working on unique products in various materials: including textiles, ceramics, glass, wood, and metal. The Scenography and Costume Design Section brings together designers working in dramatic and musical theatre, film, television and puppetry. Any Slovenian citizen or company registered in Slovenia actively involved in design or offering teaching or training in any design area can become an active DOS member. Foreign citizens actively involved in the profession in Slovenia can also become DOS members. Individuals or groups supporting the society's work (individuals, labour organisations and professional associations) may also contribute in the work of the society. The DOS was founded in 1951 and is the only professional association in Slovenia to unite designers from all areas of design. The society has been a full member of Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) since 1961. In 1963 the society took part in the founding congress of Icograda and has influenced the development of the institution, which has set out the most important and still valid rules on quality evaluation in the field of visual communication design. Respecting the criteria defined by Icograda is one of the main commitments of its members, which includes the DOS. The DOS is a co-founder of the Architecture Museum in Ljubljana and the international BIO (Biennial of Industrial Design) and the author of the event concept. The DOS was also involved in establishing the curriculum council for higher education studies at the University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian Copyright Agency, the Slovenian Chamber of Culture, and defining evaluation criteria for design services. The numerous awards won by DOS members have helped establish the society among the Slovenian and international public.

The Department of Graphic Design has recently been acknowledged as the best graphic design department in South Africa by the industry. This award was won when DUT students took top awards at the national SAPPI Think Ahead Competition in October 2006. This is just one of several prestigious acknowledgments of excellence which the department has received.   Integral to the development and quality of student portfolios is the use of technology, and the department boasts one of the largest and most up to date computer networks in South African Graphic Design education, using industry standard software. Nonetheless there is much focus on craft, illustration and conceptual thinking skills starting from the first year of study. From then until graduation students work on a wide range of practical, theoretical and research projects, all of which are calculated to contribute to their professional career. Such projects include drawing, illustration, page layout and typography, or image manipulation for packaging, editorial, advertising, corporate or public information purposes, amongst others. The programme also aligns itself very closely with the demands of the local, national and international industry and our students are encouraged at all times to channel their creative ideas and concepts into relevant and commercial projects.   Each of the design lecturers in the programme is committed to and focused on providing a creative and rewarding learning experience. Several staff members are involved in important research projects; one of which is based on the link between Design, Health and Community. This international research programme, known as the England and Africa partnership (EAP), has been piloted in Uganda in 2007. For the past five years a very successful National Research Foundation (NRF) niche area project has involved over twenty-five BTech Graphic Design students since its inception. Further to this several staff are involved in varied and unique research investigations whilst upgrading their qualifications to Masters and PhD level. Examples of these areas of research are the internationally renowned and recognized Siyazama Project which originated in the Department of Graphic Design. This project has formed the foundation of our Design, Health and Community research focus. Further to this staff in the Department are researching appropriate visuals for good communication in an on-line learning environment, and studying the semiotics in African alphabet systems. Several staff members have presented papers at international conferences and have been published in international journals and continue to do so.   On successful completion of the National Diploma (3 years) or BTech degree (4 years) employment opportunities are vast and varied. Multi-media, the advertising industry, graphic design agencies, web design and the print industry are just some of the industries awaiting the Graphic Design graduate. We also offer an exciting and enriching Masters degree in Graphic Design. Our graduates have an enviable record of successful employment, both within South Africa and overseas, where many are working in the UK, the USA, Australia, and other countries.   So if you think you have what it takes to be a creative and innovative conceptual designer then come and join us!

The Design Institute is focused on unlocking socio-economic value for South Africa through design. South Africa needs a design community that is responsive to the needs identified by the national economic and industrial growth policies. The power of design has to be marshalled to contribute meaningfully to the national challenges of high unemployment, poverty and inequality in the country. The SABS Design Institute is the official national design promotion body of South Africa with the mission to be a centre of knowledge and a catalyst for the delivery of design. It acts as a national change agent that creates socio-economic value. The Design Institute actively responds to the country's need for design capability which effectively translates research, development and invention into sustainable economic opportunities and market successes. The first steps towards establishing the Design Institute were taken in the 1950s and 1960s, aiming to stimulate the steadily developing manufacturing industry in South Africa. Since 1969 the Institute has been the driving force behind product design promotion in the country. Today the Institute's focus is aligned to address current national priorities - facilitating design support and design capacity building, while creating a general awareness of the value-add quality of design.
