The Australian Graphic Design Association Limited (AGDA) is the national association for professional communication designers in Australia. It was founded in 1988 to facilitate the advancement of the communication design profession in Australia.

Our goal is the establishment of fair and productive working relationships between graphic designers and their clients. We do this by providing designers with the tools and information to take control of their professional lives. We also work on increasing awareness of the value of graphic design in business.

We manage a program of awards, exhibitions, seminars and professional development activities for our members. Many of these activities are also available to the wider design and business communities.

The strategic direction of AGDA is set by our National Board and executed and delviered by an enthusiatic team of staff and volunteers in our seven Regions throughout Australia.

Design Austria (DA) is Austria's only professional association and service organization representing the interests of designers from all the creative disciplines graphic design and illustration, product design, and web design.

The association was founded as early as 1927 als Bund Osterreichischer Gebrauchsgraphiker (BOG). Outstanding artists' personalities, such as the illustrator Alfred Kubin, the typographer Rudolf von Larisch, and Joseph Binder, a pioneer of modern Austrian graphic design, numbered among its members. Today, renowned designers such as Stefan Sagmeister or Ferdinand A. Porsche continue this tradition.

In 1992 the association opened up to embrace also other fields of design, apart from graphics. This was due to an increasingly interdisciplinary professional approach and because of the fact that individual creative processes are at the basis of all design activity. Today, Design Austria has some 1,300 members from all design disciplines, most of whom work as freelance designers.

Service is one of the main concerns of Design Austria. Besides the individual counselling of its members, basic information is on top of the list. Members are primarily informed through the association's own publications and periodicals, such as the calculation and competition guidelines, which assist both designers and clients or competition organizers. This mandate to inform goes hand in hand with an educational programme: Design Austria organizes seminars (client acquisition, creative techniques, calculation, copyright), lectures featuring international speakers, and excursions.

Events are held regularly in Austria and abroad; besides comprehensive exhibitions meant to promote Austrian design and a variety of small-scale presentations, Design Austria has been the host of the designforum MQ together with the Austrian Design Foundation since late 2005. Design Austria organises international and national design competitions, such as the Joseph Binder Award, the Romulus Candea Prize, and the Adolf Loos National Design Prize.

The Union of Designers in Belgium (UDB) is a professional association of interior architects, interior designers, graphic designers and product developers. It was registered on 28 October 1980 with the Council of State. The UDB is a free and independent association unrelated to any political or public institutions. It is also financially independent.

The UDB is a founding member of the Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA), which includes some 30 associations. In compliance with BEDA recommendations, the UDB groups together numerous professions from the design world in a single association:
  • Interior architects and interior designers, the creators of all that is connected to the interior decoration of private and corporate premises or of the public sector.
  • Graphic designers, the creators of visual communication, brand images and graphic presentations.
  • Product developers and industrial designers, the creators of outfitting and consumption goods as well as mass-produced products.
In order to strengthen its national position as an association, the UDB grouped together members of the following professional associations in 1980:
  • The Professional Association of Interior Architects (BVB), headquartered in Antwerp
  • The Professional Union of Industrial Designers of Belgium (UID), headquartered in Brussels
  • The Association of Belgian Colour Advisors (VBKA), headquartered in Antwerp
As a result of the dissolution of the Belgian Chamber of Graphic Artists (CBG), graphic designers also joined the UDB.

Since 3 July 2006 the UDB has been an official national professional association. It has its seat in sector commission 14, the technical professions of the High Council for the Self-Employed and SMEs (HRZKMO) and has two representatives in the advisory body.

On 26 December 2006 the UDB submitted a request to Minister Sabine Laruelle for title protection for its interior architects. Interior, graphic and product designers will also benefit from title protection.

Representing over 3,000 graphic designers, managers, educators and students, the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) is a hub for the graphic design community. RGD promotes knowledge sharing, continuous learning, research, advocacy, mentorship and work on the cutting-edge of design. We work to establish and promote professional standards and best practices throughout our industry. RGD was created by an Act of the Ontario Legislature (Bill Pr 56) to grant designers who qualify with the designation "Registered Graphic Designer" or "RGD", and is the only graphic design association in North America to have this type of legislation. The RGD and Registered Graphic Designer designations are signals of quality and competence to the profession, public and government. Successful candidates have met a rigorous set of standards that includes relevant, professional education and experience as well as competence in the areas of business, design principles, research, theory and ethics demonstrated through the successful completion of a written test and portfolio interview. Our vision is for a graphic design profession that is broadly valued for its contribution to life, commerce and society. DesignThinkers (www.designthinkers.com) DesignThinkers is Canada’s largest, most important annual event for the graphic design community. The conference is a journey into the creative process and a celebration of strategic design thinking. Advocacy (www.rgd.ca/about/advocacy.php) RGD advocates best practices for graphic designers and the clients they work with. Our focus is on spec work and crowdsourcing, accessibility, sustainability and salaries and billing practices. Other advocacy areas include pro bono work and internship guidelines. Social Good Design Awards (www.rgd.ca/sogood) The international “So Good” Awards recognize graphic design projects done under the theme of communication design for social good; work with the power to incite action and make meaningful change in the way we live our lives. The Business of Graphic Design: A Professional’s Handbook (www.rgd.ca/resources/rgd-handbook.php) The Business of Graphic Design is the first and only comprehensive Canadian guide to maintaining a design business. The book is comprised of several sections by experts in their field and covers professional business management as it applies to graphic design. CreativeEarners Survey (www.creativeearners.ca) The bi-annual CreativeEarners Survey provides a snapshot of the Canadian creative industry, including salaries, billing practices and much more. The results are available for free as an English and French downloadable PDF and an iPad app. Expert Bureau (www.rgd.ca/expert-bureau.php) RGD's Expert Bureau represents a pool of knowledge from experienced, charismatic and insightful designers on the cutting edge of the discipline. Professional Development RGD’s many events and programs, ranging from webinars and virtual panel discussions to studio tours and more, are aimed at increasing the knowledge and skill of design professionals and providing a forum for the exchange of information. Student Programming RGD spearheads a variety of programming for design students and recent graduates, including the annual Student Awards and DesignThinkers Scholarship Programs, an ongoing formal Mentorship Program, and the annual HeadStart Conference.

Emily Carr Institute is dedicated to fostering an educational environment that is professional, practice-oriented and at the same time rooted in history and critical theory.

Their objectives are to promote a learner-centred environment focused on the Arts and Design and to facilitate the development of a milieu of creative engagement, innovation and professionalism. Emily Carr also aims to demonstrate professional excellence in all of their areas of specialization and to celebrate and support the importance and centrality of creative practices in all of the arts, media arts and design. Going further, they aim to achieve diversity within their curriculum and equity in all student and staffing activities and accountability within every part of the institution; and, to be a leader in the development of new academic programs that respond to the emerging needs of students and society, are both integral to Icograda's strategy.

For DuocUC’s School of Design, DESIGN is interpreted as an essential element in each one of mankind’s activities, and as such is explored in all of its forms and manifestations, always in extremely close contact with both the national and international industry. This happens because of the conviction that it is a discipline which has as its main asset in the incorporation of added value throughout all of the production process. This is why it has always been a main concern to keep a strong, tight bond with the World’s biggest and most important design centers, by way of tight collaboration projects. With the latter, and going along with the institutional mission guidelines, as well as considering a scenario where Chile’s Design Industry stands a bit under developed, the school has proposed itself to widen its field of action within the market, incorporating the educational development both to corporate and strategic fields. Duoc UC offers professional degrees in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Interior Design and associate degrees in Web Production, Graphic Design Technician, Industrial Clothing Production Technician, with study programs that consider the present and future of each discipline, with a technological environment that facilitates the knowledge learning and the development of abilities in the different design areas, maintaining a tight and constant contact with production and service companies, both national and international, in the same design areas as the ones featured in each program. DuocUC has a total of 79.803 students distributed across different headquarters within the Metropolitan, V and VIII regions. Of that number, 5401 students belong to the School of Design, comprised of 8 programs distributed across four sites within the Santiago Metropolitan Region (San Carlos de Apoquindo, Alameda, Plaza Oeste and Plaza Vespucio), one site in the Valparaiso Region (Viña del Mar) and one final site in the Biobio Region (San Andrés de Concepción). This School of Design is considered the most important in the country, holding 34% of the academic offer in the design area. Internationalization Since the beginning of the School of Design Duoc UC have established strong links with international institutions. Through participation in Associations, Conventions, Programs and Short Courses Internships and Exchange students may contact other community realities in the world. Since then, having an active participation in international networks (ICSID, Cumulus, DESIS, Design Factory Network) has allowed real contact with other institutions, project development and transfer of methodologies, experiences and know-how that nourishes the curriculum of our students.

APDC is a Visionary Sustainable Design organization that aims at promoting the Creative Industry in all its facets. APDC promotes projects that are more profitable for business, people and the planet. Asia Pacific Design Center (APDC) is a Promotional member of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), in the Interior Architecture/Design field. For its Awards, APDC invites the Creative Industry to present products and projects that, despite their different requirements, have adopted strategies to ensure that they have the desired sustainable effect on our environment. APDC is particularly sensitive to projects designed with little or no negative impact on the environment in material production, manufacturing processes, packaging and transportation, use and disposal or even its second scheduled life. This also goes along the line for products being used by interior designers in their projects. APDC is particularly sensitive to the fact that today’ sustainability is measured according to the impacts of products on the environment, it’s financial achievement and social suitability. We are aware that being sustainable is not an easy business when success is measured on the “Bottom Line”; now we are talking about a triple bottom line where not only the profit is measured in terms of “money” but where the social and environmental issues are evaluated in terms of “profit and lost”.  Environmental Sustainability  Social Sustainability  Financial Sustainability Sustainability therefore requires designers to understand the 3 main subdivisions that we believe will be the key to their success in the years to come in Asia. The professional practice of design starts with design education. However, education alone does not produce good design. No education institution will guaranty you a Creativity and Creative Thinking degree. Design Colleges and Universities are not necessarily planned to give students the insight into modern technological advances in design and industry. This one aspect where APDC can help achieves the ongoing emancipation of the members of the Creative Industry. Mr. Claude Bérubé is the founding president of APDC and a leading figure in the international design arena; he is a past president of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers, an Honourable Member and past-president of the interior designers association of Quebec and the past-president of the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC). He is also a past-president of the Industrial Design Association of Quebec. The Core Members of APDC include Chinese global excellent architects, interior designers and product designers who are active in Greater China, in the Asia Pacific region but also around the world as the APDC Award is open globally. APDC has several Chapters across China. To name a few of the most important one: Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Macau, Shiziazhuang….

In 2004, the directors of a group of design programmes in Colombia were meeting frequently to discuss academic approaches to design. The need for an organised body representing and promoting Design in Colombia as an academic discipline became evident. This small group of members announced their intent to create a Colombian design network. At the the first official meeting, on 18 July, 29 directors from recognised design programmes signed the constitution of the 'Asociación Colombiana Red Académica de Diseño / RAD' (Colombian Academic Design Network). RAD members agreed to its mission, network activities, rights and obligations at the first meeting. Since then, the Colombian academic network has been working with the main mission statement to 'represent and promote Design as an academic discipline, both in local and international realms,' The members unites as a network to construct academic quality through meetings and joint action.

The importance of ZGRAF lies in the contribution of the artist as an individual to international graphic design and communication achieved through art.

The second most important international exhibition is the World Triennale of Small Ceramics. Judging by the number of countries present at the exhibition, it is the largest exhibition of ceramics in the world . Ceramics is considered to be one of the most vital witnesses of the culture and life of a certain place and time.

In the year 2006, ULUPUH organised the 40th Zagreb Salon - a triennial exhibition of applied arts in Croatia.

Our Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Design wants to shape the problem solvers of tomorrow. We aim at educating designers who will be able to combine design, business, and the social sciences to develop products, strategies, processes, services, and experiences that respond to the current dilemmas that our society, country, and planet face. We hope our students will be able to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create solutions that improve the quality of life of those their designs address and reach.

In 2002, in response to the needs of the students at the university, the bachelor of Graphic Design was created. Mrs. Garbiñe Larralde, who was an academic at the time, propose the creation of this department since the students demanded it. In 2001 the project was approved. The following year, the School of Graphic Design at Don Bosco University was born. We began with 70 students and now we are one of the biggest departments at the university. The Masters in graphic design was approved in 2002 and started the following year. In 2008 we launched the department of Industrial design as a vanguard alternative, pioneered in the academics that the country has to offer, and to service the demands of the labour market and the future of the industry in the region. This assures the interest of the school to bring vanguard alternatives to the Salvadorian society.

Established in 2007, Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) is a leading design institution in Hong Kong under the VTC Group, providing quality education to cultivate knowledge, professionalism and new talents underpinning the creative industries in Hong Kong. HKDI integrates all design programmes in the former departments in Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) to offer a broad range of programmes from foundation studies, to Higher Diploma, and on to degree programmes offered in collaborations with reputable overseas universities. Programmes offered spanning across areas of visual communication, advertising, printing and digital media, fashion and image design, industrial and product design, interior and exhibition design, architectural and landscape design. To achieve greater interdisciplinary synergy, the four new academic departments, including Department of Design Foundation Studies, Department of Communication Design and Digital Media, Department of Fashion and Image Design and Department of Product and Interior Design, operate at the new purpose-built campus at Tseung Kwan O. The new HKDI campus is a winning design by a French Architect in an International Architectural Design Competition. The architecture derives its inspiration from the idea of a white sheet of paper, a metaphor for creativity symbolizing the universal medium of designers. It provides students with a creative and conducive, dynamic and vibrant learning environment for nurturing their creativity, innovation, independent learning, self-confidence and free thinking. HKDI adopts a “Think and Do” approach through contemporary curriculum and active collaborations with industries. The comprehensive design programmes are enriched with activities to nurture strengths with creative thinking skills, cultural sensitivity and global perspectives. The self-motivated study and guided learning enhances students’ development on independent thinking and self-confidence.

The Society of Hungarian Graphic Designers and Typographers (MATT) has been founded to initiate professional dialogues and to organize events for the benefit of the visual culture in Hungary. We organize exhibitions and design competitions. We make digital and printed publications on design and typography. We plan to invite speakers and lecturers from the World to bring the international mainstream and cutting-edge design closer to our country. Our goal is not only to raise the standards of local graphic design but to enhance design awareness in non-professional circles alike. Thus, we hope to help Hungarian design gain increasing local and international recognition. We elaborated a Code of Ethics that helps our members set up and clarify general standards for their professional activity. For a more effective protection of professional interests and quality design, MATT wishes to promote the future establishment of a legitimate chamber of graphic designers. We try to do our best to diminish non-professional activity and to stop visual pollution. Designers and typographers are welcome to join our club regardless of style or field of activity. The only criteria are quality and professional merit.
