'FRONTEIRAS': DISCOVER THE FRONTIERS OF DESIGN

09 March 2004
Brussels (Belgium) - The 'Fronteiras' Icograda International Design Conference will provide a forum for designers to discuss the valuable role that design plays in society and the natural environment and to raise awareness of cross-cultural design and sustainability issues.
Brussels (Belgium) - Graphic designers and visual communicators often work at the frontiers of socio-economical, industrial, environmental and business development. As the design profession matures, so does its influence and impact on society. The 'Fronteiras' Icograda International Design Conference will provide a forum for designers to discuss the valuable role that design plays in society and the natural environment and to raise awareness of cross-cultural design and sustainability issues. The conference also aims to foster information exchange, forward thinking and professional collaboration. 'Fronteiras' will be held 29-30 April 2004 at the Memorial da America Latina, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will be the last of a series of exciting events during Icograda Design Week.

A panel of international speakers will define the frontiers of design and present their unique perspectives on current design issues. Ellen Shapiro (United States) and Max Bruinsma (The Netherlands) will define the scope of challenges faced by graphic design professionals and the interventions needed to overcome these challenges. Issues in cross-cultural design will be explored by Alison Page (Australia), Kurnal Rawat (India), Garth Walker (South Africa), Bennett Peji (United States) and Ronald Shakespear (Argentina). Fumi Masuda (Japan), Pedro Martinelli (Brazil) and Luis Seabra (Brazil) will discuss sustainability issues and the challenges in designing for popular culture, commerce and industry.

Icograda invites you to discover the frontiers of design at the 'Fronteiras' Icograda International Design Conference.
