Halim Choueiry, Icograda Vice President, has taken up his new post as Chairperson of the Arts and Design Department at the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Lebanon.

The position of Chairperson is a challenging one, in a university that has grown into more than 5000 students in less than 10 years to date. The Arts and Design Department includes as many as 400 students divided over three majors: fine arts, interior and graphic design and some 24 instructors between full and part time contracts. The design department has grown a solid reputation in the last five years and has a record of winning design competition both on the national, regional and international scene.

Halim says "I am a firm believer that whatever happens to us, human beings, happens for a reason. We just have to be receptive of the universal energy. There's a lot that can be said about those circumstances but there is always more that cannot be described because of their intertwined complexity. The known is always much less than the unknown, and in the case of me moving back to Beirut, it surely is. Non the less, I am grateful of the circumstances that have led me to back to vibrant Beirut because it made me take another step further in my personal growth as the Chairperson of the Arts and Design Department at the American University of Science and Technology, otherwise known as AUST."

Having accepted this position, Halim is ready to face the challenges that come with his title . "Building an actual design thinking system and an adequate learning process with the faculty team, is one of the most challenging jobs that an educator can ever hope to achieve. Specially that there is room enough for such endeavor to take place adding to it the passionate people working there, their willingness to achieve and go further and deeper and most importantly their vision to graduate a different breed that is cross culturally adequate to the country, the region and the world." says Halim.

Halim mentions "The process is long. But the expectations are high. One has to look at the newly developed strategic plan to grasp the idea of where the Arts and Design department is heading. We have faith in the future."
