Ruedi Baur: the diversification by contextualisation
There was once a world where differences happened naturally. The lack of information and the economic, political, religious and cultural motives automatically created profound differences that threatened the wealth of our world.

This time is definitely over. Neither protectionism and other nationalist aberrations, nor religious reminiscences, nor the preservation of all heritages will contribute to sustain the production of natural difference in a space of permanent interference. In this irreparably global world, the difference can only result from a voluntary act: an act of design in some way. But is the term "design" not precisely the expression of this contemporary visual uniformity? What attitude must this discipline implement to escape from the interchangeable solutions to this culture of decontextualisation what still characterises it?

About Ruedi
Ruedi Baur, born in 1956, graduated in graphic design from the Zurich School of Applied Arts. In 1989 he set up Intégral concept, now a group of five independent partners studios being able to intervene jointly on any cross-disciplinary project. Intégral works on 2- and 3-D projects within the different fields of visual communication: identity, orientation and information programs, exhibition design, urban design.

Ruedi Baur has been a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 1992 and member of the "CAFA Art Research Centre for the Olympic Games" since 2004.

Today Ruedi Baur is a professor at the Luxun Academy of Shenyang and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA) in China, at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD) in France and at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) in Switzerland.

Luna Maurer

Through the influence of media and technology in our world, the way we live is characterised by speed and constant change. Internet, networks and the media ecology result more and more in a dynamic, data driven, screen-based information society. The way we work as designers has to coincide with this changing world view. For these constantly changing situations we need to approach design in a dynamic way. In a dynamic system the process and relationships are the defining element. The process is the product.

As a designer Luna tries to escape the traditional media related categorisation but rather refer to a mentality, a specific approach that allows her to design things that adapt to their environment, emphasise change and show difference.

About Luna
Trained as a graphic designer, Luna Maurer works as an independent designer in the field of interaction and media design in Amsterdam. Her interests lie in technological developments that change our media into fluid digital environments and finding design solutions for it.

She applies her approach of designing environments and tools to all kinds of media: dynamic media (web, tools, animation and video) but also to print, installations and performances.

Her work has been exhibited a.o. at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum de Paviljoens, Almere, London Design Museum. At the moment she teaches interaction design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, and is connected as a tutor to the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.
