London (United Kingdom) - A higher than anticipated number of entries in the newly launched Design Lions competition has prompted the appointment of three more judges, the organisers of the International Advertising Festival announced today.

Whilst entries are still being processed, the Design category is showing strong growth with submissions much higher than expected. As a result, new Design jury members are needed in order to judge the entries during the Cannes Lions Festival in June.

"As with any innovation at Cannes, we consulted carefully with the industry before launching the Design Lions, and we expected a lot of support. But our expectations have been exceeded, and we are delighted with the interest shown in the new competition. This is an amazing result for a launch of a new category," commented Philip Thomas, Festival CEO.

The three extra newly appointed Design Lions judges are:
  • Sudhir Sharma, Founding Director & Principal Designer, Elephant Strategy + Design, India
  • Nathan Reddy, CEO & Executive Creative Director, Grid Worldwide Branding & Design, South Africa
  • I-Min Pao, President, PPGroup, Chinese Taipei

As a consequence of the high number of competing Design entries as well as a dramatic increase in submissions for Promo Lions, which was launched just three years ago, Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies will now be awarded in both the Design and Promo competitions.
